The Hon’ble Speaker Shri Mingma Norbu Sherpa and Hon’ble Deputy Speaker, Smt Raj Kumari Thapa, Sikkim Legislative Assembly are presently at Tokyo, Japan on their post conference study tour after attending the 67th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference held at Sydney, Australia.
On 11 November, 2024, the Sikkim delegation visited places of tourist interest like Mount Fuji, Senso-ji Temple, Harajuku, Meiji Jingu Shrine, Tokyo Skytree, Kawaguchiko Lake etc. In the evening, the Sikkim delegation attended dinner hosted by First Secretary and Head of Chancery, Embassy of India in Japan Ms Tseten Nordon Cargyal at her official residence, Shirokanedai, Minato-Ku, Tokyo. The dinner was also attended by the Hon’ble Deputy Speaker Shri S. Toiho Yeptho, Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Minister (Consular) Shri Dhiraj Mukhai and Third Secretary Shri Aman Akash.
Ms. Tseten Nordon Cargyal is an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) Officer of 2012 batch and holds the record to be the first Sikkimese daughter to become an IFS Officer. She is currently posted in the Embassy of India in Tokyo as First Secretary and Head of Chancery.
She served in the Indian Embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Indian High Commission in Dhaka, Bangladesh and served in the Investment and Trade Promotion Division and Integrated Finance Division at Headquarters of Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi.
Hailing from Sikkim, Ms. Tseten Nordon Cargyal studied in Himali Boarding School and Tashi Namgyal Academy, Gangtok. She completed her B.Com (Hons.) from Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi University. She is married to Shri Shishir Kothari, who is also an Indian Foreign Service officer and her batchmate.
The Hon’ble Speaker and Hon’ble Deputy Speaker, Sikkim Legislative Assembly extended their best wishes to Ms Tseten Nordon for her future endeavours and career progression. They also firmly opined that the upcoming younger generation of Sikkim should opt for a career in civil services following the footsteps of Ms Tseten Nordon.
On 12th November 2024, the Hon’ble Speaker and Hon’ble Deputy Speaker paid floral tributes and offered Khadas-traditional ceremonial scarves from Sikkim at the bust of Mahatma Gandhi at Edogawa, Tokyo.
Thereafter, the visiting dignitaries were received by the Ambassador of India to Japan Mr. Sibi George at his office at Indian Embassy, Kudanminami, Chiyoda City, Tokyo and shared views on common interests. The Hon’ble Speaker, Sikkim Legislative Assembly also informed various initiatives taken by the Government of Sikkim under the dynamic leadership of Honourable Chief Minister, Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) for sustainable and overall development of the state.
The Hon’ble Speaker and Hon’ble Deputy Speaker invited the Ambassador to visit Sikkim to which the Ambassador also expressed his desire to visit Sikkim in near future
