Skill Training for Rural Youth on Beekeeping concludes at Karthok, Pakyong Yakten GPU
Pakyong, December 23:
The Skill Training for Rural Youth on Beekeeping concluded at Karthok, Pakyong Yakten GPU, under the Pakyong Block. The training aimed to promote sustainable agricultural practices and enhance local livelihoods through beekeeping. A total of 25 enthusiastic participants from the region took part in the session.
The closing ceremony was attended by Panchayat Ms Sarita Sharma & several key officials, including Mr Tshering Chophel Bhutia, Additional Director cum Project Director of ATMA, Mrs Rebecca Gurung, Deputy Director cum Deputy Project Director of ATMA, and Mrs Menuka Rai, HDO of Pakyong.
Other attendees included Mrs Binita Chettri, Agriculture Inspector (AI), Mr Yogesh Gautam, Block Technology Manager (BTM) of Pakyong, Mrs Sanjumith Lepcha, Assistant Technology Manager (ATM) of Pakyong, Mr Suren Subba, Krishi Sevak, and staff members of the Pakyong Yakten GPU.
The training was led by Senior Apiculturist Mr Khem Kumar Bhattarai, who shared his extensive expertise in beekeeping practices, including hive management, bee species identification, and honey production techniques. Coordinated by the BTM Pakyong, the program provided participants with practical skills and insights into modern apiculture.
This initiative is part of the larger effort by MANAGE, Hyderabad, to promote rural livelihoods, develop youth skills, support agro-based enterprises, and ensure the sustainable growth of agriculture in the region. The training marks a significant step toward empowering local farmers and aspiring beekeepers, offering them the tools to integrate beekeeping into their agricultural practices. This, in turn, will contribute to biodiversity, crop pollination, and sustainable agricultural development.
The programme concluded with the distribution of certificates to all participants, recognizing their completion of the training.
