The imminent conclusion of the contract with the outsource agencies, coupled with the need that was felt for waste management to be handed over to an experienced firm and bring the entire exercise under a single agency had prompted the Corporation to float a global tender earlier that was participated by three firms.
The tender process was overseen by a Committee constituted for the process with GNS Builders emerging as the successful bidder. The MOU was signed today entrusting them with the work for an initial period of three years. The team from GNS Builders also gave a presentation on their approach and strategy as they embarked upon the huge task of solid waste management in the jurisdiction of the GMC.
The Municipal Commissioner spoke on the current scenario of Solid Waste Management and issues faced by the GMC, highlighting the potential obstacles that would need to be surmounted by GNS Builders while appreciating the work done to date by the outsourcing agencies. The Municipal Director (UDD), in his address, stated that while the initiative was positive and promising, the monitoring and regulation of the same would lie on UDD and GMC.
The Hon’ble Mayor stressed the importance and need to take the step of entrusting the work to a single agency well-versed in solid waste management. He also thanked the outsource agencies who have been engaged in solid waste management with GMC and applauded the commendable shift they have been putting in while wishing GNS Builders well on the way forward.
