Dafey Munal Nritya Pratiyogita at 14th Sikkim SARAS Trade Fair
Namchi, 19 January:
The Dafey Munal Nritya Pratiyogita, a vibrant dance competition, was held on 18th January 2024 at the 14th Sikkim SARAS Trade Fair at Jorethang, Namchi District. This event was part of the 10-day-long SARAS trade fair, which brings together Self-Help Groups (SHGs) from across Sikkim and other states to showcase their products, culture, and talents.
The Sikkim SARAS Trade Fair is a platform provided by Sikkim Rural Livelihood Mission where SHGs from Sikkim and outside States participate to exhibit and sell their products. The fair spans ten days and serves as a hub for cultural exchange, economic growth, and community interaction. It provides SHG members with an opportunity to learn from each other and gain exposure to a larger market. This year, the event witnessed an overwhelming response from participants and visitors alike.
This year SRLM have taken a step forward to showcase the talent of the SHG members and boost their morale. SRLM had organised The Voice of SHGs singing competition for Self Help Group members on 16th January 2025. The Dafey Munal Nritya Pratiyogita was first of its kind of program organized at the SARAS Fair. This dance competition served as an energetic cultural highlight, drawing a large crowd of enthusiastic viewers from within the fairgrounds and surrounding areas. The event was hosted by Mr. Rajendra Sharma who did an excellent job as the Master of Ceremonies. The panel of esteemed judges included:
1. Ms. Radha Pradhan, CEO, Sikkim SRLM
2. Ms. Preetha TB, Mentor - SVEP
3. Ms. Kala Sharma, Dance Teacher from Jorethang
A total of 12 participants took part in the competition, showcasing their zeal and dedication. Among them were two participants from Assam and Tripura, who added a unique dimension to the event with their traditional dances. The performances spanned various cultural traditions, featuring dances to Nepali, Lepcha, and Gurung songs. The diversity of the performances highlighted the rich cultural tapestry of the region and resonated deeply with the audience. The vibrant costumes, energetic moves, and heartfelt expressions made the event a visual and emotional treat.
The Dafey Munal Nritya Pratiyogita was not just a competition; it was a celebration of talent, culture, and empowerment. The program was a huge success, providing an opportunity for SHG women to showcase their dancing talents and boost their morale. The event provided SHG women with a platform to showcase their abilities, boosting their confidence and morale. This initiative by the Sikkim SRLM team aimed to build confidence among the participants, preparing them to represent their talents on larger platforms during SARAS fairs in other States.
The lively performances brought energy to the SARAS crowd and left the audience entertained and inspired. The competition concluded with the announcement of winners who impressed the judges with their exceptional performances:
1. Ms. Sunita Rai from Chumbung Block
2. Ms. Ranjana Sharma from Rakdong Tintek Block
3. Ms. Elisha Lepcha from Ravongla Block
The judges commended all the participants for their dedication and encouraged them to continue pursuing their passions. Their words of encouragement added to the positive atmosphere of the event.
The Dafey Munal Nritya Pratiyogita was a shining example of how cultural events can uplift and inspire individuals while enriching a community. By providing a stage for SHG members to express themselves through dance, the event highlighted the importance of preserving and celebrating cultural heritage. The program not only entertained but also empowered the participants, giving them the confidence to represent their talents on broader platforms.
The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Binod Nepal, expressing gratitude to the judges, participants, organizers, and audience for their support.
