Coordination Meeting Held for Homestay Meet 2025 at Uttarey,Gyalshing,West Sikkim
Gyalshing,January 27: A coordination meeting to plan and organize the Homestay Meet 2025, scheduled for March 2025, was held on 26th January 2025 at Uttarey,Gyalshing,West Sikkim.
The meeting was Chaired by Hon’ble MLA-cum- Advisor Shri Sudesh Kr. Subba, and had presence of distinguish Tourism officers from HQ including Mr Vikash Rai, Sr. CHA, Ms Yamini Pradhan Deputy Director ,Mr Manoj Kr. Chettri, Deputy Director, Adventure, Ms Vijeta Chettri, Assistant Director Hospitality, and Ms Deepa Gurung, Tourist Officer and Experts from the Technical Support Agency (TSA), Ms Chungchungla Bhutia, CBT Expert, and Mr Ankit Sood, Tourism and Marketing Expert, contributed to the discussions.
The said meeting was also attended by Zilla Panchayat Member of Mangmoo - Begha Mr Dinesh Gurung, Zilla Panchayat Member of Maneybung -Sopakha Territorial Constituency Shri Keshar Man Limboo, Zilla Panchayat Member of Gitang-Karmatar Ms Devi Maya Chettri, Zilla Panchayat Members of Begha- Mangmoo Dentam , Panchayat President Mr Bhim Limboo along with all members of Maneybung GPU, Panchayat President Ms Munna Gurung and members of Sopakha GPU , President Mr RB Bista , General Secretary Mr Sher Bahadur Subba and all members of Dentam Tourism Development Society, SHO,Uttarey PS, SHO Chiwabhanzyang CP,
NGOS executive members of entire Stakeholders of Uttarey - Maneybung-Sopakha,
Jhankridhunga,Karmatar,Gitang, Sardong, Lungzik,Bongten,Hee,Radhu,Khandu,Sankhu,Bhalukhop,Lidung, Mangmoo,Begha, Dentam, Homestay owners, Hostelers,Tour operators, Paraglider pilots, trekking Guides,Tour Guides, women and locals.
The meeting focused on showcasing Sikkim’s rural tourism potential and promoting community-based tourism activities.
The following objectives of the Homestay Meet were discussed:
1.Highlighting Sikkim’s rural tourism through homestays, handlooms, and handicrafts.
2. Promoting responsible tourism practices among stakeholders.
3. Recognizing and awarding the District’s Best Homestay Operators in Sikkim.
4. Encouraging digital content creation by inviting India’s top digital influencers.
5. Facilitating B2B networking with offbeat national-level tourism operators.
6. Interpreting Sikkim’s cross-cultural experiences through cuisine, dress, music, and crafts.
7. Promoting Uttarey as an adventure tourism destination, with activities such as paragliding, trekking, camping, birding, rock climbing, and bungee jumping.
During the meeting, Mr SB Subba, President of the Dentam Tourism Development Society, presented a detailed overview of the tourism resources in Dentam and Uttarey. He emphasized the need for site-based training, trekking trail renovations, improved water and sanitation facilities, and campsite management.
Mr Vikash Rai Sr.CHA highlighted the Sikkim INSPIRES initiatives,and encouraged the locals towards better tourism management in Uttarey Area.Assistant Director, Hospitality Ms Vijeta Chettri elaborated on the objectives of the Homestay Meet and encouraged suggestions from participants.
Mr Manoj Kr. Chettri Deputy Director, Adventure briefed attendees on adventure tourism activities, including paragliding, and shared updates on the IHCAE's ongoing initiatives and highlighted upcoming plan for uttarey area regards to Adventure tourism growth.
Mr Ankit Sood stressed the importance of responsible tourism practices and capacity building for local stakeholders before implementing marketing strategies.
Ms Chungchungla Bhutia urged homestay operators to prioritize cleanliness and sanitation in their establishments.
Addressing the meeting, Hon’ble MLA Mr Sudesh Kr. Subba encouraged public participation and urged local youth to create vlogs promoting Dentam and Uttarey. He expressed his commitment to ensuring the event’s success and maximizing its benefits for the community.
The meeting concluded with a site visit to Gumpa Dara to finalize locations for the upcoming Homestay Meet 2025.
