Sensitization Program on the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents & Senior Citizens Act, 2007
Soreng, February 17: A sensitization program on the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents & Senior Citizens Act, 2007 was conducted at Sribadam Samdong GPU by the Women & Child Development Department, Soreng District. The program was led by Eleena Gurung, and a brief introduction was given by CDPO Gauri Tamang.
During the session, the provisions of the Act were discussed, emphasizing the rights and welfare of senior citizens. PO, DCPU Tek Maya Sharma spoke about the provisions of the Act and highlighted the significance of Childline 1098, a helpline for children in distress.
Additionally, Mr. Loshan Rai, Social Welfare Inspector, provided insights into various social welfare schemes, including:
Old Age Pension
Pension for Persons with Disabilities
Widow and Unmarried Women Pension
As part of the initiative, glucometers and blood pressure monitors were distributed to:
1. Mingma Tshering Bhutia
2. Chinglap Bhutia
3. Alena Limbo
Additionally, two Social Workers and one Panchayat House received these health devices for public use:
1. Dawa Thendup Bhutia (Social Worker)
2. Rinchen Doma Bhutia (Social Worker)
The program saw active participation from senior citizens, local residents, Panchayat members, and the Hub for Empowerment of Women. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Eleena Gurung.
