Awareness Program on the 10th Anniversary of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao
An awareness program was conducted to mark the 10th anniversary of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative, targeting C and D grade staff of the BDO, ADC, and Zilla Panchayat offices. The program aimed to educate employees about various government schemes related to child protection, women’s welfare, and legal provisions.
Key Highlights:
Mrs. Gauri tamang, CDPO Soreng provided insights into the BBBP scheme and introduced the newly established offices of District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Child Helpline (CHL), One Stop Centre (OSC), HUB, and Women Helpline (WHL).
Mr. Peter Rai, DCPO, spoke about Mission Vatsalya and elaborated on the functions of the DCPU unit in child welfare and protection.
Mrs. Tek Maya Sharma, PO (DCPU), discussed POCSO Act 2012 (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act) and its significance in safeguarding children.
Mrs. Deborah Lepcha, Project Coordinator (CHL), explained the role of CHL (Child Helpline) and emphasized the importance of helpline number 1098 for child-related emergencies.
Miss Deena Rai, Call Operator gave information on the One Stop Centre (OSC), its services for women in distress, and highlighted the Women Helpline number 181.
Miss Nutan Lepcha, DMC (DHEW), shared insights on HUB’s role in empowering women by conducting awareness programs at the grassroots level.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks by CDPO Soreng, expressing gratitude to the speakers and participants for their involvement in spreading awareness about these crucial initiatives.
