Namchi, 28 February: Krishi Vigyan Kendra Namthang in convergence with CSIR-NEIST under Floriculture Mission conducts one day training and method demonstration programme at Namthang and Passi
Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Namthang, in collaboration with CSIR-NEIST (North East Institute of Science and Technology), Jorhat, organized a one-day training and practical demonstration program under the Floriculture Mission. The event aimed at promoting the marigold variety Pusa Narangi alongside apiculture for the farmers of Namthang and Passi villages. The training session began at KVK Namthang and was followed by a field visit to Passi village, where farmers received hands-on demonstrations on cultivating Pusa Narangi, a high-yielding marigold variety known for its extended shelf life.
Shri I.P. Shivakoti, Senior Scientist and Head of KVK Namthang, welcomed the participants and expressed gratitude to the institute for implementing the program to benefit local farmers. Dr. Sumit Singh, Scientist at CSIR-NEIST, spoke about the economic potential of floriculture, emphasizing its role as a significant income source for farmers.
He also highlighted the importance of beekeeping and the branding of honey to create better marketing opportunities. Mr. Rajak Hussain, Project Associate under the Floriculture Mission at CSIR-NEIST, conducted a practical demonstration for the farmers, showcasing the techniques for cultivating marigold. As part of the initiative, the farmers were provided with essential tools, including bee boxes, a honey extractor, a smoker, a bee veil, and marigold seedlings, all crucial for integrating floriculture and beekeeping.
This program offered farmers a valuable opportunity to enhance their knowledge of floriculture and apiculture, aiming to increase their income and promote sustainable agricultural practices.
