March 26, 2025: Tourism and Civil Aviation Department launched trek for Sikkim Student Trek namely Yuksam - Dzongri trek for college students and Soreng - Barsey trek for Senior Secondry School students with the theme of Sikkim Tag lines "Sikkim Where Nature Smiles'.
The Tourism and Civil Aviation Department Goverment of Sikkim today launched an Exposure Trek for students titled Sikkim Student's Trek with the theme "Sikkim Where Nature Smiles"
The event launched as part of the 50 Years of Statehood celebration, was led by Shri. Tshering Thendup Bhutia, Honourable Minister, Tourism and Civil Aviation Department in presence of Shri.Kazi Sherpa,Joint Director Adventure, Tourism and Civil Aviation Department cum principal IHCAE, Chemchey and officers from Tourism and Civil Aviation.
As announced by Hon'ble Minister, the trekking programme will be conducted in two phases for college students and one phase for senior secondary students in three phases, which includes 100 students from colleges and 60 students from Senior Secondry Schools.
This trek is specifically targeted for Government School and college students enrolled in tourism courses.
As mentioned by Hon'ble Minister the college students will embark on a 5 days high trek to the famous Dzongri -Goechala trek, and school students will go on a 3 days trek to, Barsey trek.
The said trek is planned for students pursuing Tourism as a main subject in schools and colleges to boost their knowledge and experiences for their future prospects.
The first batch of college students will depart for the exposure trip on March 29th March 2025, followed by another college batch on 30th March 2025, while the Senior Secondry School students will travel on 7th April 2025 to Barsey trek.
Hon'ble Minister Tshering Thendup Bhutia encouraged and appeal the students to take full advantage of the exposure trek,and gain practical knowledge and exposure.He added that all expenses for the trek would be borned by the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, Government of Sikkim.
He added, "This is a full initiatives and organised by Tourism and Civil Aviation Department."
The Minister also informed that similar projects and programmes will be launched under the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department in a day to come offering future generation an opportunities to explore, learn, and gain valuable experiences for their future endeavours.
