Meeting on Sustainability of ODF Plus Model Status & Compliance with SWM Rules and NGT Act conducted at ADC Development, Gyalshing District

The Rural Development Department (RDD), in collaboration with the ADC Development Office, Gyalshing, convened a crucial meeting to discuss strategies for sustaining the ODF Plus Model status and ensuring compliance with the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules and the National Green Tribunal (NGT) Act.
The session was chaired by Additional District Collector (Development), Shri Surat Kr Gurung, and witnessed active participation from Block Development Officer (BDO) Gyalshing, Assistant Directors from various Gram Panchayat Units (GPUs), AD Education, Bazaar Inspector from Gyalshing Nagar Panchayat, and staff members including Safaimitras.
The meeting began with a comprehensive overview presented by ADC Shri Surat Kr Gurung, highlighting the significance of the ODF Plus Model and the critical need for community involvement to sustain its status.
Ms. Yangchenla Bhutia, State Resource Person (SBM-G), delivered an insightful presentation on the Solid Waste Management Rules, the National Green Tribunal Act, and the current waste crisis. She emphasized sustainable practices to curb plastic use and outlined practical, community-friendly solutions aimed at reducing waste generation and promoting environmental consciousness.
The session concluded with an encouraging note by BDO Gyalshing, who underlined the importance of individual responsibility in tackling the waste crisis. He stressed that small actions at the personal level can collectively lead to significant positive impacts at the community level.
This initiative is part of the broader commitment under Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) to ensure clean, green, and sustainable rural communities in the Gyalshing District.
