Leg 1 to Conclude at Lachung, North Sikkim
Gangtok, April 23 (IPR): The inaugural edition of the Mountain Rush – Sikkim Time-Speed-Distance (TSD) Car Rally was formally inaugurated today from the 0 KM mark at Ridge Park, Gangtok. This vibrant ceremony was attended by rally enthusiasts, distinguished guests, and members of the media.
The event is organised by Summit Times in collaboration with Service to Mankind and the Information & Public Relations Department (IPRD) of the Government of Sikkim, receiving support from the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI).
The ceremony signified the commencement of Leg 1 of the rally, which will guide participants to the scenic destination of Lachung in North Sikkim by the end of the day.
A total of 32 vehicles assembled at the starting point to engage in this prestigious motorsport event, which marks a significant first for the state.
Prior to the flag-off, each participating team was presented with a specialised document referred to as the “Tulip.” This document serves as a symbolic and vital component of TSD rallying. Designed in a pictorial format, the Tulip provides detailed route instructions and is a traditional element of rally events worldwide. The issuance of the Tulip chart symbolises the official commencement of the time-speed-distance challenge, where maintaining designated speeds and distances serves as the ultimate test of precision.
The flag-off was conducted in the presence of Secretary IPRD Ms Anapurna Alley, Director IPRD Mr Umesh Sunam, senior government officials, motorsport stewards, and representatives from the organising committee.
The rally, celebrated as part of Sikkim’s 50th Anniversary of Statehood, aims to promote rural tourism, highlight local homestays, and foster the development of motorsports within the region.
Over the ensuing days, participants will traverse all six districts of Sikkim, engaging in both the thrill of rallying and the cultural richness of the state.
Results from Leg 1 and route updates will be disseminated at the conclusion of the day in Lachung.
