The seven-day Beekeeping Training-cum-Seminar Programme officially commenced today at Middle Gyalshing, 6th Mile, in Gyalshing District, marking a significant step towards promoting scientific beekeeping practices in the region.
The programme is being organised by Department of Horticulture, Government of Sikkim, in collaboration with MES, and is sponsored by National Bee Board, New Delhi, under Madhu Kranti flagship initiative of National Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM), Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India.
The inaugural programme was graced by Hon’ble Area MLA-cum-Advisor, Shri Loknath Sharma, accompanied by Shri Tenzing D. Denzongpa District Collector, Gyalshing, Shri Tshering Sherpa Superintendent of Police, Gyalshing along with other dignitaries and a large gathering of progressive members of the local public.
Mr. Sushil Chandra Chettri, Beekeeping Instructor, Horticulture Department, served as the key Resource Person for the programme and is facilitating the training sessions with his expert guidance and hands-on experience.
The primary objective of the programme is to equip progressive bee farmers with practical knowledge and skills related to scientific bee rearing and management. Participants are being introduced to the multifaceted benefits of beekeeping, including its role in enhancing agricultural productivity through pollination, generating additional income through honey and other bee-related products and contributing to environmental sustainability.
The training includes practical demonstrations, visual presentations and hands-on sessions to enrich the participants’ learning experience. The active engagement and positive feedback from the participants and attendees significantly contributed to the success of the opening day of the programme.
