Exposure Visit-Cum-Training Programme to Sribadam, Soreng District, Organised by ATMA Pakyong
Pakyong, April 24:
Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Pakyong organised an exposure visit-cum-training programme to Sribadam, Soreng District, aimed at enhancing the practical knowledge and skills of farmers and officials in the region.
The delegation was led by Mr Tshering Chophel Bhutia, Additional Director-cum-Project Director of ATMA Pakyong, accompanied by Mrs Rebecca Gurung, Deputy Director-cum-Deputy Project Director, ATMA along with senior officers & officers from the Agriculture & Horticulture Department, Assistant Technology Managers (ATMs), Block Technology Managers (BTMs), District and Block Farmers Advisory Committee (DFAC & BFAC) Chairpersons, and progressive farmers.
The team visited the following exemplary farms in Sribadam:
• Sribadam Rainbow Trout Farm: Owned by Shri Kal Bahadur Gurung, this farm has become a model for aquaculture in the region. Gurung transitioned from a taxi driver to a successful trout farmer, establishing eight tanks and a hatchery with 3,000 broodstock. His annual production of fingerlings is around 500,000, and he supplies to local farmers and the state department.
• Apple Farm: Operated by Shri Kussang Kinzong Bhutia, this farm showcases innovative orchard management and high-altitude fruit cultivation techniques.
• Mushroom Farm: Managed by Shri Sonam Gyalcho Bhutia, this farm offers insights into low-space, high-yield mushroom production, contributing to sustainable agriculture practices in the region.
The exposure visit provided a platform for knowledge exchange, allowing participants to observe successful farming practices and discuss challenges and solutions in the agricultural sector.
The initiative aligns with ATMA Pakyong’s commitment to fostering farmer-to-farmer learning and promoting sustainable agricultural development in the region.
