Seven days (24th to 30th May) beekeeping training programme cum Seminar programme concluded today with valedictory session that was organised by the Department of Horticulture, Government of Sikkim in collaboration with MES, was conducted at Middle Gyalshing, 6th Mile, Gyalshing West District. This programme was sponsored by National Bee Board, New Delhi under Madhu Kranti Flagship, National Bee Keeping and Honey Mission (NBHM) , Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department, Government of India.
The final day programme was attended by Shri Pemjungla Bhutia (Deputy Director Horticulture Gyalshing), Shri Ram Chandra Thapa ( Field Circle Incharge , Horticulture Department Gyalshing ), Shri Sagar Sharma ( Zilla Panchayat ), Shri Yam Kumar Pandey ( Panchayat President), Field Assistant Horticulture Department, Staffs of Agriculture and Horticulture Department with the presence of the general progressive public of six GPU's (Gyalshing Omchung GPU) under Gyalshing Constituency.
Mr Sushil Chandra Chettri was the key Resource Person (Beekeeping Instructor), Department of Horticulture, Government of Sikkim, who diligently conducted the seven days programme.
The seven days programme saw an active participation from the progressive farmers of six GPUs which was focused on equipping the progressive bee farmers with practical knowledge and skills in scientific bee rearing and management in the most sustainable manner.
During the training, participants were introduced through power point presentations and hands on activity with practical demonstration to the numerous advantages of beekeeping, such as bee farming tools, its role in increasing agricultural productivity through pollination, the potential for income generation from honey and other bee products, and its contribution to ecological balance. An active interaction with valuable feedback from the public and other attendees greatly enhanced the seven days programme’s that concluded with the valedictory session through distribution of certificates to the progressive farmers.
