Training cum distribution Programme on soil health card, soil health fertility and management held in EMRS Gangyap.
Gyalshing, May 2 :
The Agriculture Department of Gyalshing District successfully conducted a one-day training-cum-distribution programme on soil health card, soil health fertiity and management at the EMRS Gangyap, Gyalshing.
The training aimed to create awareness among the students and farmers regarding the importance of soil health fertility, management, soil testing and soil health cards for promoting sustainable agriculture and enhancing farmer productivity.
Mr Karma Sherpa, Additional Director, Horticulture/Agriculture Department, addressed the participants and emphasised the importance of soil health testing and soil health card in providing farmers with detailed information about their soil's nutrient status, allowing them to make informed decisions about organic fertilizer use and crop management. This leads to reduced input costs, improved crop quality and yield, and ultimately, increases the productivity.
The technical session was led by Mr Tara Man Rai, Soil Expert, Agriculture, Gyalshing, who provided a comprehensive overview of the said programme. His presentation included the definition of soil, essential nutrients required for proper crop growth, methods of collecting soil sample and procedure of soil testing. He elaborated on the soil testing kit viz harvesto machine in playing a critical role on carrying out soil testing in areas where there is no static laboratory available. He also mentioned that gyalshing soil testing laboratory has been recently recognised under National Accreditation Board of Laboratories (NABL) for the period of 3 years till 2028.
Distribution of soil health cards to the beneficiaries was carried out along with registration of new students participations for the upcoming soil testing activities undertaken by EMRS Gangyap under school health management programme.
The programme concluded with vote of thanks by Mrs Bina Gurung, Agriculture Inspector.
The programme witnessed the participation of Deputy Director Agriculture, Dr. Karma Chewang Bhutia, Soil Testing School Coordinator, Ms. Bandana Pradhan, EMRS Gangyap, Village Level Workers, Field Assistants, and Organic Field Assistants of Tashiding GPU.
