Awareness Programme Cum Mass Screening for Non-Communicable Diseases Conducted at District Administrative Centre, Gyalshing
Gyalshing, May 2:
A team comprising officials from the District NCD Cell, IEC Cell, and Food Cell under the District Hospital Gyalshing conducted an Awareness Programme cum Mass Screening for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) for the staff of the District Administrative Centre (DAC), Rabdentse.
The programme began with a session led by the Food Safety Officer, who introduced the Eat Right campaign. Staff members were informed that the DAC Canteen has been selected as an Eat Right Campus, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts to maintain this recognition. The officer urged everyone to adopt a balanced diet, prioritize food safety, and make sustainable food choices.
Following this, the NCD Counsellor provided insights into the prevalence and types of common NCDs, highlighting risk factors, complications, and the importance of early detection. Staff were encouraged to undergo Blood Pressure (BP) and Random Blood Sugar (RBS) checks.
The NTCP Consultant then introduced the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) and discussed the harmful effects of tobacco use. He also provided information on the relevant sections of the COTPA Act, 2003, aimed at tobacco regulation and public health protection.
In observance of World Malaria Day, the Health Educator delivered a talk themed “Malaria Ends with Us: Reinvest, Reimagine, Reignite.” The session focused on the signs, transmission, causes, and prevention of malaria, with emphasis on sanitation, early diagnosis, timely treatment, and the community’s critical role in malaria control. High-risk groups, vulnerable areas, and available health services were also discussed.
Simultaneously, the NCD Staff Nurse conducted on-site BP and RBS screening for all staff members. Suspected cases were referred to higher facilities for further evaluation. Individuals already undergoing treatment received counseling on risk factors and necessary lifestyle modifications.
The programme was well-received and highlighted the importance of preventive healthcare, workplace wellness, and community participation in combating both communicable and non-communicable diseases.
