Pakyong, May 03:
In a stride toward sustainable development and community health, the office of Additional District Collector (Development), Pakyong District, has launched the Connect Earth-Sweat Contribution Centre, a flagship extension of the popular Friday Field/Farm Day Mission: Revival of Barren Land for Cultivation. This initiative, held under the visionary leadership of the Chief Minister of Sikkim, marks a revolutionary step toward integrating agriculture with holistic well-being.
The inaugural ceremony of the Connect Earth-Sweat Contribution Centre took place at Pachey Samsing, within theGnathang Machong Constituency, where over 20 acres of government land are now being cleared of overgrowth for cultivation purposes. The event saw participation from the Zilla and Gram Panchayats, BDO Pakyong and his team, officers from the ADC Development Office, local intellectuals, and Mr Sabin Subba and his team.
Mission Objectives and Vision
The mission, which originally focused on transforming barren land into productive farmland, has now broadened its goals to address the growing need for mental, physical, and environmental well-being. The Connect Earth-Sweat Contribution Centre is envisioned as a hub for sustainable living and community-driven growth.
Core Objectives Include:
• Revitalising unused land to boost agricultural productivity and ensure food security.
• Promoting holistic well-being through barefoot farming and hands-on connection with nature.
• Tackling modern ailments like anxiety, depression, and hypertension by encouraging physical labour and mindfulness in nature.
Community at the Core
The Connect Earth-Sweat Contribution Centre is more than just an agricultural initiative — it’s a call to return to the earth and rediscover the healing powers of community, nature, and shared purpose.
Key Focus Areas:
• Physical Activity: Participants engage in barefoot farming, enhancing physical fitness and endurance.
• Mental Rejuvenation: Nature-centred practices provide relief from daily stress and emotional fatigue.
• Social Cohesion: Collective farming fosters bonds, unity, and a sense of belonging among community members.
With the active support of local leaders and citizens, the administration anticipates significant outcomes from this mission, including:
• Higher crop yields and better land utilisation.
• Healthier lifestyles and reduced cases of lifestyle-related diseases.
• Stronger community spirit and a model for rural revival across the region.
Residents are invited to actively participate in this groundbreaking effort to build a greener, healthier, and more united Sikkim, as it’s about reconnecting with earth and each other. It’s about health, heritage, and hope.”
