Lower Samdong, April 03:
A special event titled “Friday Farm” was organized at Lower Samdong Farm, drawing attention to the importance of sustainable agriculture and horticultural development in the region. The program was held on April 02 at the farm premises in Lower Samdong with an impressive turnout of officials, farmers, and community members.
The event was graced by Honourable Minister Shri Puran Gurung as the Chief Guest, who emphasized the government's continued commitment towards empowering farmers and enhancing agricultural productivity through innovation and support schemes.
Honourable MLA of Tumin Lingee Constituency Shri Samdup Tshering Bhutia attended as the Special Guest, highlighting the potential of Samdong in becoming a model region for integrated farming and rural entrepreneurship. In his address, he acknowledged the dedication of local farmers and assured that the government would extend all necessary support to boost horticulture and allied activities.
Honourable Zilla Adhakshya of Gangtok, Shri Balaram Adhikari, also participated in the program and commended the efforts of the local administration and farming community in promoting agri-based self-reliance.
The program saw the presence of senior officials from the Horticulture Department, including the Principal Director, Assistant Director, and representatives from various line departments. They interacted with farmers and stakeholders, shared technical insights, and reviewed schemes aimed at enhancing yield and improving market linkages.
The “Friday Farm” event concluded with an interactive session between farmers and officials, followed by a field visit to inspect ongoing farming practices and innovations implemented at the Lower Samdong Farm. The initiative reflects the state government’s vision of fostering agricultural growth while ensuring sustainability and rural prosperity.
