Sikkim @ WAVES2025 : Sikkim Joins the Vanguard of Creative India under CM Prem Singh Tamang Golay’s Visionary Leadership
In a powerful testament to the growing synergy between regional aspirations and national vision, Sikkim, under the dynamic leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang Golay, is emerging as a vital contributor to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s transformative goal of making India a global creative superpower. With unwavering dedication to empowering youth and enabling innovation, CM Tamang is spearheading a renaissance rooted in creative enterprise and digital imagination.
At the heart of this visionary push lies the Hon’ble Chief Minister’s firm belief that India’s demographic dividend: its youth, is the greatest driver of its destiny. By channeling the unique energy, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit of young minds, CM Tamang is not only building Sikkim’s future but also contributing meaningfully to PM Modi’s mission of a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
Hon’ble CM Shri Prem Singh Tamang Golay has long been a vocal advocate of youth-led development, recognizing the immense value in non-traditional career paths such as digital content creation, performing arts, fashion, gaming, music, and entertainment. His bold initiatives to support these sectors mark a significant shift in governance one that places innovation, creativity, and youth empowerment at the center of economic planning.
This commitment is not limited to words but reflected in action. The Hon’ble Chief Minister has extended generous support to musicians and local artists, understanding that cultural and creative expression is key to shaping identity and economic opportunity. The establishment of the Vijaymani Thulung Art Gallery stands as a proud testament to his dedication to nurturing the visual arts and preserving local heritage. Similarly, through Pari Prakashan, a trust dedicated to promoting and publishing the works of emerging and established writers, CM Tamang has demonstrated his commitment to nurturing literary talent and intellectual creativity beyond the boundaries of government. Through these efforts, he continues to foster a vibrant and inclusive creative ecosystem rooted in Sikkim’s identity and culture.
In a landmark move, the Hon’ble Chief Minister announced Sikkim’s first-ever “Creatorpreneur Policy.” By highlighting the creative economy in his various addresses, he has taken a pioneering step towards institutionalizing support for creative professionals. This policy, the first of its kind in the region, is designed to provide structural, financial, and infrastructural backing to creators, influencers, artists, and startups in the creative economy. It has ignited widespread excitement and engagement among the youth of Sikkim and beyond.
Demonstrating this commitment at the national level, a delegation from the Government of Sikkim, including the Secretary of IPR, Secretary of IT, Political Secretary to the Chief Minister, Press Secretary to the Chief Minister, and others, actively participated in the prestigious World Audio Visual Entertainment Summit (WAVES 2025) held in Mumbai. Inaugurated by Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 1, the summit, hosted by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, witnessed participation from over 90 countries, 10,000+ delegates, 1,000 creators, and 300+ companies. Sikkim stood proudly among them, reinforcing its growing role in India’s creative narrative.
This historic participation is not merely symbolic, it is strategic. It underscores the shared vision between PM Modi and CM Tamang, both of whom understand that economic growth in the 21st century will be led by ideas, creativity, and digital innovation. By embracing this reality, the leaders are creating ecosystems that not only retain talent but also attract global attention and investment.
Hon’ble CM Tamang has often stated that “Sikkim content is Sikkim’s strength, and our stories are our economy.” He firmly believes that Sikkim’s unique identity, culture, and talent can power a new economic era where creative capital is just as valuable as natural or industrial capital.
The delegation from Sikkim attending WAVES 2025 returns enriched with fresh insights, best practices, and renewed motivation. They have expressed their deep gratitude to the Hon’ble Chief Minister for his foresight in enabling the state's participation in such a landmark event. The learnings and experiences from the summit are set to be integrated into upcoming initiatives and policies that will continue to transform the youth and creative landscape of the state.
As India strides confidently towards becoming a global leader in creative industries under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi, Sikkim under the leadership of Hon’ble CM Shri. Prem Singh Tamang Golay: is ensuring that its youth are not only participants but pioneers in that journey.
