Block Farmers Advisory Committee Meeting Convened at Yangang Block
3rd May 2025, Yangang: A Block Farmers Advisory Committee (BFAC) meeting was organized today at Lingmoo Paiyong GPK with the active participation of Honourable Ward Panchayats from Darakharka, Chauridara, and Tintarbong, Deputy Director Agriculture, Ms. Vaishnu Rai; ADO, Ms. Florenz Bhutia; AI, Ms. Tshering Yangchen Bhutia; VLW, Mr. Shivanath Chapagai; ATM, Mr. Surendra Subba, staff members from Agriculture and Horticulture Departments and around 40 farmers.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by VLW Mr. Chapagai, who briefed the gathering on the steady growth in millet production in recent years and elaborated on the benefits of the Production Incentive Scheme (PIS).
Ms. Vaishnu Rai emphasized the role and functioning of BFAC in supporting and guiding farmers. She highlighted the various components of the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) and urged farmers to explore innovative marketing channels to enhance their income. She also encouraged farmers to avail the benefits of ongoing government schemes like PMFBY and PM-KISAN.
Ms. Florenz Bhutia conducted an in-depth training session on pest and disease management in maize cultivation. She provided detailed insights into effective control and prevention strategies and offered guidance on the use of biopesticides and fertilizers aimed at boosting production and productivity.
Mr. Surendra Subba further elaborated on the objectives and guidelines of the BFAC and ATMA.
The programme also celebrated the achievements of local farmers. Mr. Khem Lal Pekhurel was felicitated for his contributions towards millet production, while seed money support was extended to the Suryodaya SHG, Tintarbong. Additionally, Mr. Kuber Nath Acharya was recognized as ‘Farmer’s Friend’ in acknowledgment of his efforts towards uplifting the farming community. The honoured farmers expressed their gratitude to the department for the recognition and continued support.
Mr. Dev Chandra Subba (Marketing Assistant) also held a practical demonstration on the working of pulverizer.
To further empower the farming community, the event also included the distribution of pulverizers and various agricultural inputs. The meeting was hosted by Ms. Tshering Yangchen Bhutia, who served as the master of ceremonies.
