To commemorate the 50th Golden Jubilee of Sikkim’s Statehood, the 1st IRBn Delhi hosted a grand celebration at its Battalion Headquarters in Wazirabad. The event featured a vibrant lineup of traditional sports and a spirited evening music concert performed by the battalion band members. The students from Sikkim also presented captivating traditional dances.
A football match was also organised between Commandant XI and Officers XI, in which Commandant XI triumphed with a four-goal victory.
For the first time, the traditional Sikkimese sport Dhoko, a stone throwing game was showcased as a highlight of the event. This ancient sport was once a popular pastime among the Sikkimese people before the state's merger with the Indian Union.
The Commandant of the Battalion, Mr Palden Bhutia, warmly welcomed the Chief guest Mr Ushop Bhutia, the only business entrepreneur of Sikkim in Delhi and other special guests from ITBP, CRPF, Meghalaya Police and Rajasthan Police.
During his welcome address, Commandant, Mr Palden Bhutia apprised the gathering about the Sikkim's brief history and highlighted the overall achievements made by the State under the able and dynamic leadership of the Chief Minister of Sikkim, Mr Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) one of the most popular Chief Minister in India. A ceremonial cake cutting event was also held to commemorate the historic occasion. The Chief Guest, Mr Ushop Bhutia and the Commandant presented trophies and cash awards to all the winners and participants of all the events.
The vote of thanks was proposed by the Dy.SP Ms Karma E Kaleon, acknowledging all the guests and participants who made the event memorable.
