IPR Department Launches 50 Years of Statehood Open Photo Contest

Gangtok, May 4 (IPR): In a significant initiative to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Sikkim’s Statehood, the Information and Public Relations Department, Government of Sikkim, has announced the launch of the “50 Years of Statehood Open Photo Contest.” This unique contest aims to chronicle and celebrate Sikkim’s remarkable journey over the past five decades through the lens of photographers from all walks of life.
The contest is open to all citizens and invites submissions under four key themes:
• Historical Photographs – focusing on black & white or archival photographs of Sikkim;
• 50 Years of Statehood – highlighting milestones and memorable events;
• Local Life & Culture – covering cuisine, festivals, heritage, historical sites, iconic events, and notable personalities;
• Development Then & Now – showcasing Sikkim’s growth story, particularly in infrastructure and socio-economic transformation.
Participants may submit a maximum of three entries per category. Photographs should be emailed to 50yearsstatehoodipr@gmail.com. The last date for submission is May 12, 2025.
Winners will be felicitated with cash prizes as follows:
• First Prize: ₹50,000
• Second Prize: ₹30,000
• Third Prize: ₹20,000
• Consolation Prizes: ₹5,000 (up to 10 participants).
Through this initiative, the Department aims to build a vibrant visual archive that reflects Sikkim’s heritage, progress, and cultural richness. Citizens are encouraged to participate enthusiastically and contribute to this historic narrative.
