Today, Dr. Mangal Jit Rai, Chairman of the Sikkim State Cooperative Union (SICUN), paid a courtesy visit to Dr. J.M. Vyas Ji, the first Vice Chancellor of the prestigious Tribhuwan Sahakar University, India’s first university dedicated exclusively to cooperative education.
On behalf of SICUN and the entire cooperators of Sikkim, Dr. Rai extended his heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Vyas Ji on his esteemed appointment. This historic milestone marks a new chapter in the evolution of cooperative education in India.
During the meeting, several key issues were discussed:
Dr. Rai shared the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the proposed North East Cooperative Excellence Training Centre at Tamla Village, Assam Lingzey, Sikkim. The Centre is envisioned with world-class residential hostel facilities and modern ancillary amenities, aimed at transforming the lives and livelihoods of rural communities across the North Eastern Region.
Dr. Rai apprised Dr. Vyas Ji of the strong support extended by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shriman P.S.Tamang (Golay) to cooperative societies, especially the Rs. 8 per litre incentive for dairy cooperatives and the promotion of local cooperative products. He also shared details of the new award scheme announced by HCM, which includes:
Rs. 10 lakh for the Best Cooperative Society
Rs. 7 lakh for the Second Best
Rs. 5 lakh for the Third Best
These awards will be formally instituted from this year’s Independence Day celebrations.
Dr. Rai extended a formal invitation to Dr. Vyas Ji to visit Sikkim and witness firsthand the dynamic cooperative movement taking place in the state. Dr. Vyas Ji appreciated the ongoing initiatives and assured his full support for cooperative development in Sikkim.
