Orientation of Earthian Educators held for 80 School Eco-Clubs of Mangan, Gangtok and Pakyong Districts on May 30-31, 2025 Gangtok, May 31, 2025: Sikkim EIACP Hub and EEP Cell of Forest and Environment Department, in collaboration with WIPRO Earthian, organized an Orientation Programme for 80 Earthian Educators under the Earthian Schools Programme 2025. The sessions were held at PM Shri Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Mangan (May 30) and Sidekeong Tulku Forest Conference Hall, Gangtok (May 31), as a run-up to World Environment Day 2025. The event aimed to equip educators with tools and knowledge to promote sustainability education in schools, aligned with Mission LiFE and the theme #BeatPlasticPollution. The Earthian Schools Programme focuses on integrating sustainable lifestyle education through structured and action oriented activities focusing on sustainability of water, biodiversity and waste. Participating teachers were provided with resource materials for the program which engages students to reflect on their current environmental practices. The event also fosters networking and collaboration among environment educators across the nation. The program intends to help the green teachers with effective tools in imparting sustainability education to the students with hands-on and DIY project activities. The initiative is also a part of Environment Education Programme (EEP) to foster eco-conscious learning and adopt lifestyle for environment from early age. Shri Asish Shah, WIPRO Earthian Associate from New Delhi was the key resource person for the orientation program. The inaugural session was chaired by Shri Karma Legsgey D. IFS, Chief Conservator of Forest and Ms Kusum Gurung, Additional Director of Forest. WIPRO Earthian has been partnering with Sikkim ENVIS Cell, Forest and Environment Department since 2015 in promoting environment education in schools. So far, three Sikkim schools have been feted with National Earthian Awards by WIPRO Foundation Benguluru. This year's orientation program is another opportunity for Sikkim School Eco-Clubs to shine at the national level. It may be mentioned here that Rumtek SSS has bagged the Best Eco-Club Award 2024-25 conferred by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India earlier this month.
