Awareness Programme on Mental Health, Entrepreneurship, and Skill Development with Health Screening at BAC Duga.
Pakyong, June 23:
The Office of Zilla Panchayat, Central Pendam conducted an awareness programme focusing on mental health, entrepreneurship, and skill development, along with a health screening camp for diabetes and tuberculosis, at the Duga BAC Hall.
The event witnessed active participation from members of WDS, Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and unemployed youth from Pendam. The programme aimed to empower local communities through knowledge, awareness, and essential health checkups.
Key Speakers and Sessions:
Dr Madan Mani Dhakal (Chief Medical Officer, Pakyong) served as the keynote speaker, sensitising attendees about the growing concern of mental health issues and the importance of early intervention.
Barun Sinha led the session on capacity building, emphasizing the “Vocal for Local” initiative and encouraging local product promotion and self-reliance.
Chandan Bajgai provided insight into various ITI programmes and trade opportunities, motivating the youth to pursue vocational training for self-employment.
Hem Kumar Chettri from the Centre for Financial Literacy briefed participants on financial planning, savings, and entrepreneurship.
The programme had the gracious presence of BPM Rabin Acharya, BDS President Bidya Biswakarma, BDO Chopel Bhutia, along with ward panchayats, SHG Presidents, and other administrative staff.
Zilla Panchayat Member Shri Bebek Chettri welcomed all dignitaries and participants. In his address, he highlighted the importance of entrepreneurship, self-employment, and the mobilisation of SHGs as a means to create a sustainable local economy.
Post-programme, a free health screening was conducted by the Duga Health and Wellness Centre, ensuring early diagnosis and awareness regarding diabetes and TB.
