Tawang Marathon Promo Run Held in Gangtok; Over 100 Runners Participate in 5-Kilometre Event
Gangtok, July 18:
A promotional run for the upcoming Tawang Marathon was held today in Gangtok, organized by Sikkim Green Hill Runners with the support of the Tawang Marathon team. The 5-kilometre run saw participation from over a hundred runners of various age groups, beginning and concluding at MG Marg, the heart of the city.
The run was flagged off jointly by Dorjee Dadul Pulger, President of Sikkim Green Hill Runners , and Gaurav Sharma, representative of the Tawang Marathon.
Speaking at the event, Pulger expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration and the participation of local runners. “This is a great opportunity for runners from Sikkim to gear up for the Tawang Marathon. We are thankful to the Government of Sikkim and Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang for their constant support and encouragement towards sports and fitness initiatives.” He said.
Gaurav Sharma, representing the Tawang Marathon, highlighted the significance of the promo run. “The purpose of this event is to encourage more runners to register for the upcoming Tawang Marathon. Registrations are now open, and we’re expecting a higher turnout this year,” he said.
Sharma also shared that Ms. Phurba Tamang, a runner from Sikkim, was the previous edition's winner, and he is hopeful of even greater participation from the region this time around.
The promo run witnessed enthusiastic participation from fitness enthusiasts, amateur runners, and seasoned athletes, all contributing to a vibrant atmosphere and promoting the spirit of healthy living and sportsmanship.
