The 19th Sub-Junior & 20th Junior Boys & Girls Sikkim State Boxing Championship 2025 Concludes Successfully at Reshithang Sports Complex
Reshithang, July 28, 2025: The 19th Sub-Junior & 20th Junior Sikkim State Boxing Championship 2025 concluded on a high note at the Reshithang Sports Complex after three electrifying days of intense competition and enthusiastic participation from young boxers across all districts of the state.
Organized by the Sikkim Amateur Boxing Association (SABA) and proudly sponsored by Sikkim Dear Lottery, the championship began on July 26, 2025, serving once again as a powerful platform for identifying and nurturing the state’s emerging boxing talent.
This year’s event saw the participation of 108 boxers from various districts, along with their respective district associations and coaches, reflecting the growing popularity and grassroots support for boxing in Sikkim.
Grand Finale and Closing Ceremony-
The final day was marked by a special opening ceremony, graced by esteemed dignitaries Chief Guest Hon’ble Shri M.N. Sherpa-Speaker of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly, guest of honour Shri N.B. Dahal-Patron of SABA and Minister, Roads & Bridges Department, Ms Kala Rai-Former SABA Executive Member & MLA, Burtuk Constituency, Shri Jacob Khaling- Political Secretary to the Chief Minister, Senior officials from the State Sports Development Board and other government departments.
In her welcome address, Ms Anjana Thapa, General Secretary of SABA, extended a warm welcome to all the guests and thanked the state government for its continued support toward youth development through sports.
During the ceremony, SABA took the opportunity to felicitate three distinguished individuals for their contributions:
1. Shri Yapchung Kazi – Former National Veteran Badminton Player, Gangtok
2. Dr. Ram Bahadur Biswakarma – Honoured as a visionary leader, tireless administrator, and humble human being
3. Shri Pawan Awasty – Principal Director, Sikkim State Lottery, recognized for the generous support of Sikkim Dear Lottery
In his address, Speaker Shri M.N. Sherpa commended all participating athletes and encouraged young boxers to stay dedicated and disciplined. He inspired the audience by sharing the story of boxing legend Muhammad Ali, urging the youth to dream big and pursue excellence in sports.
Medals were awarded in various categories of Sub-Junior Boys & Girls and Junior Boys & Girls, as follows:
Gold Medals: 14
Silver Medals: 14
Bronze Medals: Nil
Championship Titles by Category-
Junior Boys Champion: Gangtok District
Sub-Junior Girls Champion: Namchi District
Junior Girls Champion: Namchi District
The medal distribution was carried out by Minister Shri N.B. Dahal and other dignitaries, amid loud cheers from proud parents, coaches, and supporters.
The successful completion of this championship has further cemented SABA’s commitment to promoting boxing and nurturing young talent in Sikkim. With continued government backing and community enthusiasm, the future of boxing in the state looks promising.
