Delegates of Sikkim SCPCR Join NE Regional Convention on Child Rights in Agartala
Agartala, 29 August 2025:
The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare and Social Education, Government of Tripura, organised a day-long Northeastern Regional Convention on Child Rights on 29th August 2025 at Pragna Bhawan, Agartala.
From Sikkim, Shri Anish Sharma, Member, Sikkim State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR), officially represented the Commission. Also joining the event was Ms. Manisha Cintury, Joint Secretary, Department of Women, Child, Senior Citizens & Divyangjan Welfare, Government of Sikkim, and Member Secretary of SCPCR, Sikkim.
The convention was graced by the presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tripura, Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, as the Chief Guest, and Shri Tinku Roy, Hon’ble Minister for Social Welfare and Social Education, Tripura, as the Guest of Honour. Ms. Tripti Gurha, Hon’ble Chairperson, NCPCR, also addressed the gathering. The event witnessed participation from Chairpersons and Members of SCPCRs of all Northeastern states, senior government officials from line departments including Police, Women and Child, Education, Labour, Health, and stakeholders working in the field of child rights and protection. Sikkim was also represented by the departmental representatives/ officials from the aforementioned line departments.
During the programme, Shri Anish Sharma, Member, SCPCR Sikkim, served as a panelist in the session on Overview of Child Rights, with emphasis on Juvenile Justice Act, 2015 where he shared insights on the implementation of child rights frameworks in Sikkim and the challenges faced.
Similarly, Ms. Manisha Cintury, Joint Secretary, Women and Child Department, and Member Secretary, SCPCR Sikkim, was a panelist in the session on “Safety and Security of Children in Schools with reference to NCPCR’s School Safety Manual.” She highlighted the initiatives undertaken by the Government of Sikkim and SCPCR as well the Women and Child Development Department to strengthen school safety mechanisms and ensure a secure environment for children.
The convention concluded with an Open House Discussion and adoption of a “Way Forward” resolution, with Sikkim actively contributing to the dialogue and policy recommendations.
SCPCR Sikkim reiterates its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the rights of children and looks forward to greater collaboration with NCPCR and other Northeastern states in building a robust child protection system.
