TAAS Executive Body Meets Ministers; Extends Gratitude for Battlefield Tourism Initiative
Gangtok, September 11:
The Executive Body of the Travel Agents’ Association of Sikkim (TAAS) today called on Hon’ble Tourism & Civil Aviation Minister Shri TT Bhutia and Hon’ble Minister Ecclesiastical, PHE & Water Resources, Shri Sonam Lama, extending heartfelt gratitude to the Government of Sikkim for introducing Battlefield Tourism—a visionary initiative that adds yet another feather to the State’s vibrant tourism sector.
On the occasion, TAAS also submitted a memorandum seeking streamlined management of the permit system and stronger safeguards for locally registered travel agents. The delegation, led by President Mrs. Phumpi Bhutia, Vice President Mr. Tshering Dorjee Lachungpa, General Secretary Mr. Ramesh Basnett, along with other executive members, highlighted key priorities for the sustainable growth of Sikkim’s tourism industry.
Key issues discussed included:
• Development of adventure tourism.
• Standardization of trekking and pony/yak service rates.
• Annual maintenance and upgradation of the Singalila trekking route.
• Promotion of the Four Holy Caves of Sikkim as a religious tourism circuit.
• Protection and promotion of locally registered travel agents.
The Hon’ble Ministers congratulated the newly elected TAAS Executive Body, assured them of full support, and committed to placing these issues before Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) for further consideration.
