Sikkim Legislative Assembly Secretariat Flags Off Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan Social Audit.
Namnang, Gangtok, 18th October 2025: The Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRC Sikkim), operating under the National Institute for Locomotor Disabilities (NILD), Kolkata, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, initiated the Social Audit of Buildings under the Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan (Accessible India Campaign), starting with the Sikkim Legislative Assembly Secretariat. The audit was conducted on 18th October 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Assembly Secretariat premises.
The programme was flagged off by Shri Barun Dahal, Joint Secretary and Grievances Redressal Officer for Persons with Disabilities at the Sikkim Legislative Assembly Secretariat, marking the official commencement of the social audit initiative in the State. The initiative aims to evaluate and enhance accessibility in public buildings for persons with disabilities, promoting inclusivity and equal access to government infrastructure.
The event was attended by Dr. M.B. Chettri, Joint Commissioner, and Shri P.N. Pradhan, Assistant Commissioner, from the Women, Child, Senior Citizen & Divyangjan Welfare Department; Smt. Pushpanjali Gupta, Director, CRC Sikkim; Shri Barun Dahal, Joint Secretary, Shri Karma P. Namgyal, Joint Secretary, Shri Jigmee Bhutia, Under Secretary, and Smt. Suprima Pradhan, Under Secretary, from the Sikkim Legislative Assembly Secretariat.
Speaking at the event, the officials highlighted the importance of accessible infrastructure and reaffirmed the State’s commitment to the objectives of the Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan, a flagship initiative of the Government of India under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), MSJE.
The team from CRC Sikkim will continue conducting social audits of key public buildings across the State as part of this initiative, including the Reserve Bank of India, STNM Hospital, District Administration Centre (DAC) Gangtok, Education Department Secretariat (Tashiling, Gangtok), and Panchayat Bhawan (Deorali, Sikkim) in the coming days.
