Press Release from Sarathi 1.0
Soreng District | 18th October 2025
The Second Batch of Students’ Training under Sarathi 1.0 (supported by Titan Company Limited) was successfully conducted at the ADC Rurban Conference Hall, Soreng District.
The training was organized under the noble vision of Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) to make Sikkim an “Addiction-Free and Suicide-Free State.” The program was held under the guidance of Shri Aditya Golay, Hon’ble MLA Soreng–Chakung Constituency, and Shri Rohit Raj Gurung, Advisor to the Hon’ble Chief Minister and Resource Person for Sarathi 1.0.
The Guest of Honour for the day was Miss Skachum Lepcha, SDM Soreng.
A total of 32 students (2 boys and 2 girls from each of the 8 participating Government Secondary Schools in Soreng District) took part in the training program.
The program was hosted by Hissey Ongmu Sherpa (Okrey SSS) and Sandeep Chettri (Mangsari SSS). The event began with a melodious opening song by Mingma Tshering Sherpa (Okrey SSS), followed by an inspiring story narrated by Miss Ashmita Tamang (Chief Coordinator, Sarathi 1.0) and a graceful dance performance by Divya Sarkar (Rumbuk SSS).
An interesting activity, the “Anonymous Box”, was conducted, where students had earlier written their responses to the question “What is the biggest source of stress in your life right now?” The responses were analyzed and discussed by Mr. Bishal Sharma (Project Director, Sarathi 1.0). Most students highlighted academic pressure and career concerns as key sources of stress.
This was followed by a PowerPoint presentation on Sarathi 1.0 by Miss Tila Rupa Chettri, who later shared her personal experience along with Mr. Samir Rai (Sarathi Coordinator).
The SDM Soreng, Miss Skachum Lepcha, also addressed the gathering and encouraged the students to stay focused, make wise decisions, and seek help whenever needed. The morning session ended with a musical performance by Hissey Ongmu Sherpa (Okrey SSS), Surendra Chettri (Rumbuk SSS), and Mingma Tshering Sherpa (Tikpur SSS).
Post-Lunch Session
The post-lunch session began with a group activity, where four groups presented on various topics related to Sarathi 1.0.
Miss Natasha Pariyar welcomed the guests for the second half of the day —
Mr. M.K. Khewa (Joint Director, Education Department),
Mr. Ratna Gurung (Youth Secretary),
Mr. Bidu Hang Subba (District Coordinator, Social Service Wing),
Mr. L.B. Lepcha (President, Social Service Wing),
Mr. K.B. Subba (Deputy Director), and
Mr. Nashwardeep Tamang (Inspector).
The highlight of the afternoon was two skit performances by students on the themes of mobile addiction and family & peer pressure. Students also shared their personal experiences and reflections on the training.
The guests shared their words of wisdom, appreciating the students’ confidence and creativity, and encouraged them to become ambassadors of a healthy and drug-free lifestyle.
The program concluded with the certificate distribution ceremony, a group photo session, and a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Samir Rai.
