Financial Literacy and Membership Drive Held at Budang Kamarey Cooperative Society
Pakyong, December 12 : As part of the International Year of Cooperatives, Cooperation Department, Pakyong District, in coordination with SISCO Bank, held an Awareness Programme, Financial Literacy Camp, and Membership Drive at the newly formed Budang Kamarey Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society (MPCS). The event took place at the Budang Kamarey Gram Prasasan Kendra.
The event opened with the inauguration of the society’s new office at Pachak, followed by a formal session.
Acknowledging the efforts of the founding members in setting up the MPCS, Additional Registrar Ms Kesang Yanki conveyed that the society has the potential to function as a model cooperative since it is led by retired Government employees with experience in public service. She highlighted the need for complete transparency in operations to maintain trust among members and encouraged the MPCS to take up activities that focus on the needs of its members.
In his address, Panchayat President Mr CK Chettri recognised the work of the chief promoters and assured support to the MPCS.
Audit Officer Mr Nima Tshering Bhutia conducted a session on bookkeeping and audit procedures. SISCO Bank Branch Manager Mr Ramesh Chettri briefed attendees on schemes and loan facilities available to members through the MPCS.
MPCS President Mr Chabilal Rai shared the process of forming the cooperative. He informed that the society has 150 household members and has initiated activities such as the sale of bio-fertilizers, agricultural kits and tools, running a Pradhan Mantri Kisaan Samriddhi Kendra, and operating a Common Service Centre (CSC).
During the event, Mr Lhaden Tshering Lepcha was felicitated for contributing a piece of private land to the Budang Kamarey MPCS.
Department officials presented a cooperative-themed song, followed by a skit on the advantages of cooperative membership. Children from Upper Pachak Government School performed a cultural dance as part of the programme.
The programme also had the presence of Ward Panchayat members, SISCO Bank Branch Manager Mr Ramesh Chettri, Cooperative members, and Cooperation Department officials.
