Bi-Monthly Inspection of NHPC Dam and Power House at Rangit Nagar.
Namchi, 16 December: In compliance with the directions of the Hon’ble High Court, a bi-monthly inspection of the NHPC Dam and Power House at Rangit Nagar was conducted under the supervision of Shri Saran D. Kalikotey, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Ravangla, along with Shri Suraj Rai, District Project Officer (DPO), Disaster Management, in coordination with the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA).
The inspection was carried out with the participation of concerned line departments, including the Medical Officer, Ravangla, the Building and Housing
Department, the Power Department, Health Services, and other relevant stakeholder agencies. The objective of the inspection was to periodically review safety measures, structural stability, and disaster management preparedness of the dam and power house.
During the inspection, disaster risk mitigation measures, early warning systems, emergency response arrangements, evacuation plans, and inter-departmental coordination mechanisms were reviewed in detail. Structural safety and operational safety aspects were examined by the Building and Housing Department and the Power Department respectively, while the Medical Officer, Ravangla assessed emergency medical preparedness and availability of medical response facilities.
The Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Ravangla directed the NHPC officials to prepare, update, and submit a comprehensive Disaster Management Plan in accordance with DDMA guidelines, clearly outlining roles and responsibilities, communication protocols, emergency response mechanisms, and coordination with line departments. Emphasis was also laid on conducting regular mock drills and periodic review of the plan.
The SDM further stressed the importance of regular bi-monthly inspections as a preventive measure and instructed all concerned departments to promptly address any shortcomings identified, with particular focus on the safety of downstream and nearby habitations.
The inspection underscores the commitment of the Sub-Divisional Administration, Ravangla towards proactive disaster risk management, safety of critical infrastructure, and strict compliance with judicial directions.
