Comprehensive Health Screening Camp for Tribal Students Held at Ashram School Jushingthang on (23rd February 2026) and EMRS Gangyap (24th Feb 2026).
A Comprehensive Health Screening Camp for Tribal Students was successfully organized by Tribal Research Institute & Training Centre under the Social Welfare Department in collaboration with District Hospital Gyalshing.
Programme at Ashram School, Jushingthang-23rd February 2026
The Comprehensive Health Screening Camp was conducted at Ashram School, Jushingthang on 23rd Febuary 2026.
Deputy Secretary, Tribal Affairs Division spoke on the government’s commitment to improving health care access, early detection of disease and overall well being of tribal students.
An awareness session was conducted featuring expert talks on key health issues affecting children and adolescents. Dr. Chewang Dorjee Bhutia, Paediatrician from District Hospital Gyalshing, spoke on Sickle Cell Disease, stressing the importance of early diagnosis and preventive care.
Mr. Chandra Bahadur Tamang, Technical Officer (TB Cell), Mangalbaria PHC, delivered an informative session on Tuberculosis (TB), focusing on symptoms, prevention, and treatment adherence.
Mrs. Tika Maya Chettri addressed the gathering on Mental Health, underscoring the need to reduce stigma and promote emotional well-being among students at AMRS Jhusingthang.
Following the formal programme, the health screening session commenced at 10:00 AM onwards. Students underwent comprehensive medical check-ups aimed at early identification of health concerns and appropriate referral for further treatment where necessary.
A total of 100 students were screened in the camp at AMRS Jhusingthang.
Programme at EMRS Gangyap 24th Febuary 2026
The second day Health Screening Camp was conducted at EMRS Gangyap.
The Program included awareness sessions by medical experts on major health issues affecting tribal students. The sessions emphasized preventive healthcare, early diagnosis, and hygienic practices.
Following the awareness programme, a talk on Mental Health was given by Dr. Eden Bhutia. Similarly, the health screening session commenced at 10:00 AM onwards. Students underwent comprehensive medical examinations to identify health issues and facilitate timely medical intervention.
A total of 200 students were screened at EMRS Gyangyap.
The camp also reflects a continued effort by the Social Welfare Department and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs to strengthen healthcare outreach in tribal areas and ensure a healthier future for young students. Further, a comprehensive health assessment study will be undertaken to evaluate the overall health status of the tribal students through systematic screening. Additionally, the study will also focus on identifying key aspects related to health issues such as Malnutrition, anaemia, diseases, and hygiene concerns. The finding will help strengthen health related problem and also record the health status of the tribal students.
