SCERT Sikkim organized District Level Science Seminar for Students across six districts today. The theme for this year seminar was “Artificial Intelligence: Potentials and Concerns”.
Science Seminar is an annual feature of SCERT organized under the guidance of National Council of Science Museum (NCSM), Ministry of Culture, Government of India. The objective of the competition is to inculcate a spirit of scientific inquiry and analytical thinking in the minds of young students.
District level science seminar for schools of Gangtok district was organized at Sir Tashi Namgyal Senior Secondary School (TNSSS), Gangtok. Dr. Hannah Yonzon, Joint Director, District Education Office, Gangtok was present as Chief Guest. Mr. Ivan Lepcha, PGT, Paljor Namgyal Girls SSS, Gangtok, Dr. Ronal Rai, Assistant Professor, Nar Bahadur Bhandari Degree College, Tadong and Dr. Rajesh Rawat, Assistant Professor cum HoD, Department of Physics, SRM University were the judges for the competition. PM SHRI Government Senior Secondary School, Singtam was adjudged as winner whereas PM SHRI Government Secondary School, Ralap and Government Secondary School, Nazitam were declared as first and second runners up. The event was coordinated by Ms. Roshni Sharma and Ms. Dikila Lepcha, Assistant Professors, SCERT and Mrs. Januka Dhakal, Office Superintendent, SCERT Sikkim.
The competition for schools of Pakyong District was organized at Government Junior High School, Pakyong. Mr. Bhakti Prasad Sharma, Joint Director, District Education Office, Pakyong District was present as Chief Guest during the occasion. The programme was coordinated by Mr. Binod Basnett, Lecturer, DIET Gangtok and Mr. Ajay Pokhrel, SCERT was present as observer during the occasion. The judges for the competition were Mr. Anoop VS, PGT, Computer Science and Mr. Praveen Kumar, PGT, Physics from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Pakyong and Mr. Sachin Manger, Senior Faculty, NIELIT. Government Secondary School Pacheykhani was adjudged as winner whereas Government Senior Secondary School Machong and PM SHRI Government Senior Secondary School Rhenock were adjudged as first and second runners up respectively.
Likewise for schools of Mangan district, the seminar was organized at Government Girls’ Senior Secondary School, Mangan. Mr. David Gyamtso Lingdong, Chief Education Officer (CEO), Education Department, Mangan was present as Chief Guest. Ms. Upasna Chhetri, GTS, North Sikkim Academy, Mangan, Mr. Bishal Tamang, GTS, Little Flower Mangan and Mr. Norden Tamang, UDC, Mangan Nagar Panchayat were the judges for the competition. Government Secondary School, Ringhim stood first in the competition whereas PM SHRI Government Senior Secondary School, Mangan and Government Senior Secondary School, Mangshila were adjudged as first and second runners up respectively. The competition was coordinated by Ms. Pema Palden Bhutia and Ms. Lensong Lepcha, Assistant Professors of SCERT.
The competition for the schools of Namchi District was organized at Government New Secondary School, Namchi. The programme had presence of Mr. Suraj Rai, Joint Director, Education Department, Namchi District as Chief Guest along with Mr. Bhuwan Chettri, Headmaster Govt. New SS Namchi as special guest. The competition was judged by a panel of judges comprising of Mr. Sabat Rai, Assistant Professor, Sikkim Government College, Namchi, Miss Ranjana Rai, Assistant Director, IT Department and Arun Pradhan, Senior Lecturer (Electronics and Communication), CCCT, Chisopani. Government Secondary School, Mangzing, Government Senior Secondary School, Lingmoo and Government Senior Secondary School, Rateypani were adjudged as first, second and third respectively. The programme was coordinated by Ms. Nayuma Rai, Lecturer, DIET Namchi and Mr. Parijit Sutradhar was present as observer from SCERT.
Similarly, the competition for the schools of Soreng District was organized at PM SHRI Government Senior Secondary School, Soreng. Mr. L D Adhikari, Chief Education Officer (CEO), Education Department, Soreng District was present as Chief Guest along with Dr. Purna Bahadur Chhetri, Principal, PM SHRI Soreng SSS as special guest. The programme also had presence of Mr. S P Sharma, Joint Director, Mr. Iching Subba, Deputy Director and Mrs. Shanta Chhetri, AEO Soreng BAC. The competition was judged by a panel of three judges namely Dr. Yugal Kishore Khanal, Assistant Professor, Sikkim Government College, Namchi, Mr. Jiwan Subba and Mr. Bibek Pradhan, Assistant Professors from Sikkim Government Science College, Chakung. Ms. Diya Chhetri of Government Senior Secondary School, Tharpu was declared winner whereas Master Niskar Rai of Government Secondary School, Chumbong and Master Aniket Gurung of Government Secondary School were adjudged as first and second runners-up respectively. The programme was coordinated by Mr. Suraj Kumar Sharma and Mr. Dhiraj Sharma of SCERT Sikkim was present as observer.
The competition for Gyalshing District was organized at Government Girls’ Senior Secondary School, Kyongsa. Mr. Rajesh Thapa, Deputy Director, Education Department, Gyalshing District was present as Chief Guest. Dr. Bishal Gurung, Pediatricians, Namchi District Hospital, Mr. Pema Chida Sherpa, Assistant Professor, Physics Department, Sikkim Government College, Namchi and Mr. Chandra Hang Limboo, Lecturer, ITI College, Gyalshing were the judges for the competition. Ms. Devashri Gurung of Gyalshing Girls’ SSS, Ms. Pranita Limboo of Central Martam SS and Ms. Jenula Rai of Tashiding SSS were declared first, second and third in the competition. The programme was coordinated by Ms. Sadhna Gurung, Lecturer, DIET Gyalshing and Mr. Kuldip Sharma, Lecturer, SCERT was present as observer during the programme.
A total of 82 students participated in the competition out of which 13 students were from Gangtok district, 19 were from Namchi district, 10 from Mangan District, 15 from Pakyong district, 13 from Soreng district and 12 were from Gyalshing district.
The schools securing first and second position in the district level competition will be participating in the state level competition to be held in the month of October at Gangtok.
